Body, Trim and Paint

Having always resided in California, the body remains in excellent condition. The floors, longitudinals and closing panels are original with no rust and there are no clips. The battery box also shows no rust. The engine lid and doors are originals. The trunk lid is not stamped with the last two or three chassis number digits, but has excellent gaps and has never been kinked. Panel gaps overall are very good to excellent. The body is free of door dings and there is only one small dent in the front bumper. During our magnet test, we found no areas of thick filler in the lower areas of the body.

All the trim parts are original. The glass is all original with no chips or scrapes. Front and rear light lenses show no cracks. All chrome parts still shine up well with original patina. All weatherstripping is present and in good condition.

The attractive and original color Ruby Red paint (color code #6202) is approximately ten years old, but remains in very good condition with excellent shine and only a few minor paint chips.

Interior

The black interior is all original, except for the front seats and floor mats. The dashpad, door panels, rear panels, rear seats and headliner are all in excellent original condition. The front seats were reupholstered on 10/30/07 in high quality black leather at a cost of $4,354.

The gauges, switches and knobs on the face of the dash are all in excellent original condition. The original steering wheel and sunvisors are present and are also in excellent condition.

 

Electricals

Headlights (low and high beams), tail lights, brake lights, turn signals, license plate lights, clock, horn and windshield wipers are functional.  The Bendix radio is not functional, but is original to the car along with original blue tip antenna. The starter and generator are functioning fine. Speedometer, tachometer, oil temp and fuel gauges are functional. Oil pressure and generator lights are functional. The odometer is functional and currently reads 163,883 miles. The battery is in good condition.

 

Engine and Transmission

The engine is the original 1600 Super 90 (engine number 806765) and has only 1000 miles on it's full rebuild. The rebuild was completed by a professional Porsche repair shop in San Francisco. The original Solex carburetors are installed and have also been rebuilt. The engine starts on the first turn of the key and once running it idles and accelerates smoothly with excellent power. With the high horsepower (over 90HP) of the rare Super 90 engine, this is a 356 that can more than keep up with modern day traffic.

The original 741 transmission (number 61764) is installed and shifts smoothly into every gear with no grinding or unusual noises. It's gear set is the original BBBC.

Suspension, Wheels, Tires and Brakes

The suspension is in very good original condition. The ride is comfortable with no unusual noises. Two year old Koni shocks are installed at each corner.

Two year old 5.5" chrome wheels are installed with excellent chrome.

Two year old 195/65R15 Pirelli P6 tires are installed and are in excellent condition.

The brakes are functioning excellent with a new master cylinder, hoses, lines and wheel cylinders recently installed. The emergency brake is correctly adjusted and holds tight.

The following parts are included: Chrome 4.5" spare wheel, rechromed luggage rack and original Bilstein jack.

Documentation includes service records accumulated, since the second owner's purchase in 2007.
